NYX Autumn Buys & swatches

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

So I've been dreaming about adding to my collection of NYX soft matte lip creams for a while and I finally ordered a few more. With makeup, and also everything else in life, I think it feels good to be seasonal, so I ordered shades that I thought would be perfect for the Autumnal- October November period.

Nyx soft matte lip cream Berlin Transylvania Rome MadridSo if you've never tried it or heard of it, I will explain a little of my insight into the brand. Firstly it's American, until quite recently it wasn't available in U.K. Stores, as far as I'm aware, back then they just sold it at IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) and it always had the biggest que in the whole place, the first year I went, the que was too big so I missed out. But anyways it's all good now as it is available from Boots online and in some of their stores, and in Selfridges in London. It's really cheap andddd its cruelty free, and has some amazing quite unique stuff, win win win.

I first purchased one of their matte lip creams last October on a mini road trip I went on in the USA, it's a "drugstore" brand so they sell it in the supermarkets, I picked up a couple of random colours in CVS in Florida as they were like $3.50 or something, I had no idea how much I'd love them.

Obviously it's the super in thing to wear Matte liquid lipsticks at the moment, and I personally love them, in particular Lime Crime, Gerard Cosmetics, LA Splash, NYX lip lingerie to name a few. The best thing about these is that they seem so long wearing, but they are so drying and sometimes I'm just really not in the mood for my lips to shed their skin like a snake. That's where the soft matte lip creams come in handy, because they are Matte but more nourishing than the really long lasting ones. I probably wouldn't opt for them for a big night out as I like something that will last forever, but for day time or a few drinks they're good. Plus they smell amazing like cupcakes & come in a huge array of colours which are named after cities (cute!), and cost just £5.50.

The first obvious pick for this season was Transylvania, a dark plummy purple. You need about 2 coats to get the really dark colour, and have to be careful that you spread it out evenly or it goes patchy but I love the colour its the perfect shade (and Vampiresque name) for Halloween.

NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAM BERLIN Transylvania rome madridI've been wanting a quite bright but dark red so I chose Madrid and I'm not disappointed. I'm bored of bright pure reds like Mac's Ruby Woo which used to be my staple red, and this was exactly the shade I wanted. When I started applying it I thought it seemed a bit too purply but then it settled into the perfect blood-red.

Berlin is probably my favourite out of the bunch, the photo doesn't really do it justice as its a lot darker in person, I'd describe it as the perfect true (Kardashian style) Brown. Love it!!

I wanted to order a more natural shade as the others are so bold, so I chose Rome, this is just a darker version of my natural lip, which I like. It will be good for those days when you want to wear makeup without looking like you're wearing any, if you get my drift? No? Just me then.

Halloween Bat Eye Makeup Tutorial

Hey Ghouls!

Hope you're all great.

I've had a fun day today, not only did I manage to create this cute batty sunset eye makeup but a few makeup deliveries that I ordered this week have arrived today, argh someone stop me! I ordered a few Morphe eyeshadow blending brushes from Beauty Bay. I have a few jobs over the Halloween period so I wanted to be stocked up, and thats definitely the brush you can never have too many of. If you've never used Beauty Bay before its such a great website, they stock all of the trendy American makeup brands but it's based here in the UK so the shipping is super fast and if you spend over a certain amount they send cute gifts with your order. http://www.beautybay.com/

I also did a NYX order from Boots online, they also have a good system where you can order online & collect it from any Boots pretty much the next working day, so theres no worrying about catching the delivery man.

Sooo anyways, I wanted to share with you a step by step tutorial of this cute Bat eye makeup that I did today, it's relatively easy and cute and it's less than 3 weeks until Halloween sooo...

Halloween bloody cut-crease makeup tutorial

Hey all,

So Halloween is drawing nearer, I am currently on day 9 of my 31 days of halloween over on my Instagram page instagram.com/emilyjaynefx. It's actually more difficult than I thought, coming up with a new Halloween makeup everyday, luckily there's a lot of inspiration out there. Today I did a cutesy clown, this idea is completely not original as I know a few big Instagram makeup artists have created this look.

Cute clown makeup using illamasqua, anastasia beverly hills and mac
Its very simple & easy to do though, I created it using;

  • Illamasqua- Skin base foundation in 06 & White, and their precision gel liner in Infinity.
  • Anastasia Beverly Hillsdipbrow in ash brown
  • Mac Cosmetics- lipstick in Ruby Woo

Bloody cut crease makeup tutorialI wanted to share with you a little step by step tutorial for the makeup I created for day 6 which was a Halloween Cut-Crease look. My favourite type of makeup is combining pretty beauty with gore, maybe I'm a total weirdo, but even if I am, around this time of year I can get away with it. What I like about this look is that if teamed with normal beauty makeup, it can be really subtle but with a gory Halloween twist. If you are going out to a club, you may not want to fully get dressed up, so something like this could be perfect.
Things you will need:
Bloody cut crease step by step makeup turorial
  • Red eyeshadow (I used Grenadines by Nars)
  • Dark brown or black eyeshadow (I used Triple Fudge from the chocolate bar palette by Too Faced)
  • Fake blood (a thick congealed one- Fresh scab by Ben Nye is always a winner) & also a runny one.
  • Of course your regular makeup too, and a nice vampy lipstick (I'm wearing a Limecrime velvetine liquid lipstick in the colour salem. (Love, love, love)

  1. Fill in your brows and conceal your eyelids, finish with a skin tone eyeshadow or powder.
  2. Take your red eyeshadow, and using a small round brush draw a line in your crease.
  3. Blend a little, upwards with a blending brush.
  4. Extend the line with the eyeshadow to create a wing.
  5. Take your dark brown shadow and draw a precise thin line in the crease.
  6. Take your thick congealed blood and draw over this line.
  7. Draw your actual winged liner in black.
  8. Finish with some mascara and eyelashes
To exaggerate the look I then lightly dabbed some runny fake blood along the crease and also added a bit of splatter (use an old toothbrush) and then you're good to go!

Go on, give it a try!!

It's time for me to go and do a new Halloween look for my Instagram, I'm thinking of doing a sexy Beetlejuice today, erm sexy and Beetlejuice in the same sentence you might ask?? Weird I know.

Peace & Love x

Makeup Obsession Launch

Makeup Obsession Launch

Hey everyone!

So last night I had the pleasure of attending the launch party of new makeup brand Makeup Obsession. It is part of the same company that made Makeup Revolution, which I am already a HUGE fan of. If the name doesn't ring a bell, you may remember seeing it in Superdrug, with it's ridiculously reasonably priced eyeshadow palettes. One of the palettes I highly recommend is the flawless matte palette. I'm going through a phase of loving matte eyeshadows, I'm not feeling any kind of shimmer, so this is perfect. It has 32 super smooth buttery matte shades in it, they range from banana coloured bases through to warm terracottas, an array of trendy taupes, dusty purples and even a black, and for £8, it is honestly unbelievable. They also have a range of coppery rose-gold coloured eyeshadow brushes, I have a few, they are beautiful and just so cheap.

But anyway, back to the brand Makeup Obsession which has been available in boots stores for about a month now, like Revolution its super affordable but has a bit of a different notion to its sister brand. The launch was held in a gallery in Soho, I had such a great time, mini bottles of champagne with straws, glittery cupcakes, free manicures and best of all PICK & MIX PALETTES.

This is the main concept of the brand, you pick an empty palette which come in an array of colours, and then you customise it with your own picks from an array of eyeshadows, blushers, cream & powder contour and highlight, which range from £2-£3 per pan, BARGAIN! I think this idea is pretty unique in terms of a drug store brand. (I went into MAC last week and they are also promoting this idea in store with customise- yourself palettes, but their pans are £10 a pop). Back to Obsession, the range of colours are gorge and bang on trend, we arrived a bit late and all of the rusty coppery orange colours had sold out but I still managed to throw together a beautiful individual tailored-to-me palette, which I will swatch this week. If they are anything like Revolution shadows I'm sure they'll be great.

My Palette^ (Insert love eyes emoji)

My beautiful buddy Cat & I with our Obsession eyeshadow palettes^

So to sum up my evening; I had a few champagnes, hung out with my long lost bunny Cat, we got our nails painted and I was absolute makeup heaven. I love the create your own palette concept, I think its providing a unique pro-makeup brand experience but at a drug store price. The colours are beautiful, and have cutesy star imprints in the eyeshadow pans (which are £2 each FYI). I'm yet to try them (I will be sad to lose the star shape) :'( but I will do a swatch and makeup look using the products this week!

October love & Hygge

October love & Hygge

Hey everyone. So here's my first official blog post, it's the 4th of October today, and I think the first day it actually feels Autumnal. It's taken me my whole 27 years to realise how much I love Autumn, and that October is specifically my favourite month.

Hundreds of pumpkins at a country store in North Yorkshire, on a moody cloudy autumn day

Don't get me wrong, I love hazy summer days and sipping a pina colada next to the pool, but for me personally, summer in the city (London) doesn't quite cut it. So it's such a relief for me that it's finally cooling down and the season of cosiness and Hygge, my new favourite word, is upon us.
It seems strange but I feel like the Danish Philosphy Hygge seemed to appear to me just as I needed it, I made a rash decision last month to quit my late night casino job (after 3 years) in order to pursue my makeup hobby and just general un-nocturnal happiness. The day after I uncertainly handed my notice in, I visited my parents in Yorkshire and my mum gave me a book to read.

Hygge roughly translates to Coziness from Danish but it means a lot more than that, to me it's something I've always felt and enjoyed but didn't have a word to describe it. To roughly summarise and explain what it means to me, it's about enjoying the simple things in life, and making the most of the little moments.
Cosy Hygge night in with a glass of red wine and autumnal fall decor made by me, pumpkins and check print
So whilst I am jobless I am focusing on my inner Hygge and getting super creative throughout October. Which is the perfect month to embrace your inner Hygge- ness, little things like enjoying a nice glass of red wine or going for a crisp autumnal walk are all part of it. Also every day over on my instagram- EmilyJayneFX I am posting a different SFX/ Facepainting look for Halloween & I am also planning a 90s themed Halloween party!
